The Frankfort Community Public Library has received an LSTA Innovation grant administered by the Indiana State Library funded by the Institute for Museum & Library Services (IMLS).
The Innovation grant is funding “Shaping the Future with Digital Media: From Consumer to Creator,” which will be used to purchase digital media tools and equipment for a Mobile Digital Media Lab for the Frankfort Community Public Library. Included in the grant is audio and video recording equipment and software. We plan to have programs for teens and to use the equipment with Clinton County Youth Theatre productions and workshops. Workshops will also be held for teachers from the local middle and high schools to gain a better understanding of digital media available and how to promote their use to their students. We will also hold workshops for local small businesses so they can learn how to use these tools in their businesses. The equipment will be made available to the public upon request.
Keep on the lookout for programming coming in the next few months to learn more about digital media equipment and what you can do with it!

Many of our professional organizations are looking at the necessity of moving to a “next-generation” library catalog. In the library world, what this means is moving to a catalog that integrates more features found in mainstream websites such as Google and Amazon. For example, allowing starred reviews and allowing for patrons to write their own reviews about materials found our catalog; being able to manipulate searches performed in our catalog; having multiple languages available to search in, etc.
The Frankfort Community Public Library has received a Library Services & Technology Act grant administered by the Indiana State Library through Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to help provide more Library and Web 2.0 services. The first of our services is now available through our Online Catalog and is a Spanish Language PAC. The Online Catalog can now perform the same searches as before in the Spanish Language. To search our catalog using Spanish PAC, open our catalog and change the language in the upper left-hand toolbar titled Language. You can switch the language you are working with at any point during your search and you will not loose any of your search information. We will be offering training classes for Spanish PAC at the library on June 30 from 6-7 pm. More classes will be offered in the coming months, so keep checking back to find out what days.
Coming soon as part of the grant we will be implementing ChiliFresh in our Online Catalog which will allow users to create their own reviews on materials that the Frankfort Community/Clinton County Contractual Public Libraries own. Also coming through our website (http://fcpl.accs.net) is an Online Book Group from DearReader, which will provide portions of books via email and allow discussion on these materials. Another new feature on our website will be the availability of email lists. Users will be able to sign up to receive best-seller lists, author information, Frankfort Library publications, and much more. Keep checking back at our web address to sign up for these.
We are excited about these changes and I hope that you will email us if you have questions at fcpltech@accs.net.

By the end of the year the Frankfort Library and all its branches will be installing Office 2007 on their public and staff computers. As there are major differences in how Office 2007 looks and runs, we will be conducting staff training to get our people comfortable with using the new Office program before we install on our public computers. By December we will have the program up on the computers. This will eliminate problems with keeping compatibility patches up to date.
If you currently have Office 2007 on your home computers, check out our FCPL Training Page to get free Quick Reference Cards distributed by Custom Guide. Guides we have on our web page include Microsfot Office 2007, Word 2007, Excel 2007, Power Point 2007, Publisher 2007, Windows Vista, and Windows XP. You can find more guides by visiting the Custom Guide’s Quick Reference Site. At their site you can also find guides for Microsoft Office for MAC, Adobe products and more.
